Caramel French toast

A definite winter’s day treat!

Ingredients:
Serves 6 

1 cup of brown sugar
¼ cup of white sugar
½ cup of butter
2 tbsp maple syrup
12 slices Roberts Bakery white bread with the crusts removed
6 large eggs
1½ cups of milk
1 tsp of vanilla extract
2 tbsp of sugar 

Method:

  • Combine the brown sugar, butter and maple syrup and cook over a medium heat until thickened, stirring constantly
  • Pour the syrup mixture into a small baking dish then cover with two layers of bread
  • Combine the eggs, milk, vanilla and white sugar then pour evenly over the bread
  • Cover and chill in the refrigerator for 8 hours
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 40 minutes
  • Slice and serve warm with cream.
