After a thrilling cook-off at the Cheshire Cookery School, Deanna Thomas was crowned the winner of the Roberts Bakery ’Use your loaf’ competition.
Deanna, a budding food writer and mum of two from Wilmslow, proved she had the right ingredients by creating a delicious Cheshire Breakfast Salad, using local produce and of course some local Roberts bread.
As well as winning a year’s supply of Roberts bread, Deanna is looking forward to reproducing her dish, in front of a live audience at the Cheshire County Show on June 21 and 22.
“I’m over the moon to win this competition,” she said. “I love food and enjoy cooking for people so when I heard about the competition for a chance to do a cookery demonstration with Jason at the show I had to enter.”
Deanna and fellow finalists Allan Jones, from Alsager, and Andrew Felton, from Crewe, all created their dishes for final judge Jason Palin in a Master Chef-style cook off. Allan and Andrew both prepared their own take on the classic bread and butter pudding.
“All three dishes were absolutely delicious but Deanna’s recipe in particular appealed because of its use of local produce and because it is a wonderful colourful dish that is perfect for the summer,” said Jason.
Ingredients in the winning recipe included Roberts Bakery soft white bread, Cheshire Smokehouse Smoked Black Bacon, mixed wild mushrooms, quails eggs, Cheshire black pudding, locally grown cherry tomatoes and mixed lettuce leaves, with a balsamic vinegar and orange dressing.
Deanna writes her own online food blog at www.foodographic.co.uk and is also the original founder of North Star Delicatessen in Chorlton.
