About us

For over 120 years the Roberts family have been baking top quality sliced bread at their Northwich bakery in the heart of Cheshire.  Established in 1887 by Robert Roberts, the company quickly grew from humble beginnings as a grocery sideline and began supplying freshly baked white bread to the surrounding districts.  Now the company supplies not only Cheshire and the North West, but customers in North Wales and the Midlands are able to enjoy fresh, tasty loaves from Roberts Bakery.

Still owned by the Roberts family, the company is an integral part of the local community and the cooling towers at the front of the bakery have become a renowned local landmark.

The Roberts Bakery brand is synonymous with quality, we use only the finest ingredients to produce soft, tasty bread with a fine crumb structure, great colour and good keeping qualities.  We bake over 3.5 million loaves of bread, bread rolls and teacakes each week, both for retail sale and also for foodservice companies such as sandwich makers.  No matter who it’s for every Roberts Bakery loaf has to measure up to our exacting quality standards before we put our name on it.

The retail range has grown over the years and we offer a wide choice of loaves including white, wholemeal, seeded, malted wheatgrain and oatmeal varieties.  We also bake an extensive range of bread rolls and bakery treats such as teacakes and hot cross buns.

As major manufacturers in the catering loaf category, both in the UK and exported to Europe, we have developed an understanding of the complex requirements of the food service sector.  Our sandwich bread is baked to a specially developed recipe which ensures a square slice and excellent handling qualities in the sandwich format.

The bakery in Northwich is also home to our busy test bakery where our technical development team create new recipes for customers and develop the next exciting products for the Roberts range.  Recent developments include our Seeded Farmhouse loaf and deli range of bread rolls.
